Infant and Child Mortality

Rates of infant mortality (under 1 year old) are higher than national levels (6.2 per 1,000 for Oldham vs. 3.9 per 1,000 for England). This varies considerably within the borough, with the rate in Werneth being significantly higher than the Oldham average. Childhood mortality (0-17 years) in Oldham is also appreciably higher than the England and Greater Manchester averages.

Oldham, Rochdale and Bury’s Local Safeguarding Children Boards (LSCBs) have come together to form a Child Death Overview Panel (CDOP). The CDOP collects and analyses information about the deaths of all children (under the ages of 18)¬†across the three boroughs.
